Fire, Flavour and a Whole Lot of Fizz – Emba Has Landed in Leeds
10 Jun 2025
There’s a new firestarter in town – and no, it’s not a rogue DJ with a penchant for 90s techno. It’s Emba, the latest flame-fired feast factory from Leeds culinary royalty, Elizabeth Cottam – the brains (and tastebuds) behind HOME, The Owl, and CORA.
Hot Coals, Hotter Plates
Perched right on the picturesque Leeds canal (yes, it’s giving major “wine by water” vibes), Emba opened its flaming doors in May 2025 and instantly set the city’s food scene ablaze – metaphorically, of course. We think.
The theme? Bold. The food? Bolder. Expect dishes cooked on open flames, chargrilled to perfection and served with just the right amount of drama. Think burnt cauliflower with attitude, fire-seared meats, and desserts that whisper “I’m worth the extra cardio tomorrow.”
Everything is cooked using live fire – not because it looks cool (although it really does), but because it brings out next-level flavour that frying pans can only dream of. The team describe the menu as “comfort food, but make it gourmet.” We describe it as: “Shut up and take our money.”
Booze With Bravado
Let’s not forget the drinks. The bar alone could be your new favourite Friday night haunt, even if you’re only popping in for a cheeky Pinot (OK, three). With a rotating selection of craft beers, a sommelier-approved wine list, and cocktails that are basically performance art, it’s giving “liquid luxury.”
Our pick? The “Smoked Negroni.” It’s like a campfire in a glass, without the threat of setting your fringe on fire.
So, Should You Go?
Absolutely. Whether you’re a Leeds local or just fancy a trip to the city where flat caps and fine dining collide, Emba is worth the reservation. It’s casual enough for a spontaneous Thursday dinner, but cool enough for your next big “look what a cultured foodie I am” Insta post.
Plus, the vibe is unbeatable – industrial chic meets smoky warmth, with just enough soft lighting to make your photos look fabulous and your wrinkles non-existent.
Elizabeth Cottam once again proves she’s got the Midas touch – only this time, it’s golden with grill marks.
