Wombleton’s Wonder Pub Takes the Crown – The Plough Named Best in North Yorkshire at the 2025 National Pub & Bar Awards
25 Jun 2025
Well, well, well… would you look at that! North Yorkshire officially has a pub to brag about – and it’s none other than the glorious Plough at Wombleton, your friendly neighbourhood gastropub that’s just walked away with a rather shiny award from the National Pub & Bar Awards 2025 in London.
The Plough at Wombleton stealing the show…
Yes, that London. The big smoke. The land of £7 pints and Tube-induced rage. And while the capital may have the skyscrapers and celebrity chefs, The Plough at Wombleton is a humble spot in Ryedale that stole the show last night – bagging the Best Pub in North Yorkshire title and cementing its place on the national food-and-drink map.
Run with heart, soul, and just the right amount of gravy, The Plough has been quietly (and sometimes not-so-quietly) wowing diners with its proper pub classics, elevated to gastropub greatness. Think next-level Sunday roasts, seasonal menus that give local produce the full red carpet treatment, and a sticky toffee pudding that deserves its own Netflix show.
The team took to Instagram to announce the win, writing:
“Down in the capital last night at the National Pub & Bar Awards 2025 @pubandbarmag – we were awarded the winner for best in North Yorkshire. Congrats to all other nominees who picked up an award last night.”
Honesty, humble and award-winning? We love to see it.
And while we’re handing out claps, let’s raise a glass to Yorkshire’s other winners, who also scooped regional acclaim. Among them were:
- Firepit, Beverley
- The Goodmanham Arms, Goodmanham
- The Old Star, Kilham
- The Black Swan, Helmsley
- The Black Swan, Ripon
- Biscuit Billy’s, Rotherham
- Public, Sheffield
- The Woodman, Doncaster
- Pinnacle Sports & Games, Leeds
- SALT Beer Factory, Leeds
- The Shibden Mill Inn, Halifax
Yorkshire pubs took home more than their fair share of silverware (obviously), but The Plough’s win is extra special – not just because it’s local, but because it represents everything we love about a proper pub: warm welcomes, local pride, great pints, and food that leaves you thinking about it for days.
So what’s next for the team at Wombleton’s finest? World domination? A Michelin star? A Plough-themed TV series starring James Norton as a brooding barman with a secret soufflé recipe? Whatever it is, we’ll be there. Pint in hand.
In the meantime, if you haven’t visited The Plough recently (or ever), now’s your cue. It’s not just us shouting about them anymore – it’s the whole nation. Well done, team – North Yorkshire’s proud of you. And so are we.
