The All-New Tattu Leeds is here!
14 Aug 2024
Tattu Leeds, the highly acclaimed modern Chinese restaurant smack bang in the city centre, has reopened to great anticipation following a major refurb. After seven years of captivating diners in Leeds, the restaurant has refreshed its space, bringing renewed excitement to its increasingly loyal customer base.
Renowned for its contemporary take on traditional Chinese cuisine, Tattu Leeds has proudly revealed a newly redesigned space, set to enhance the dining experience for all who are lucky enough to visit.
And boy did they deliver on their promise when FoodNoise Yorkshire recently visited the Leeds favourite and sat down for dinner with one of the founders, Drew Jones.
Exciting new chapter!
Restaurateur Jones expressed his excitement about the refresh, marking a significant new chapter for the restaurant. The transformation enhances both the ambience and offerings, with the all-new interior perfectly complementing the innovative menu. This cohesive and immersive dining atmosphere aligns with Tattu’s dedication to delivering a memorable culinary experience, ensuring a bloody good time for everyone.
The team undertook a painstaking nine-month creative journey, followed by a three-week closure, to bring the revitalised space to life. Drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese architecture, they crafted a stunning tapestry of blues, golds, and reds—royal hues that radiate regal sophistication. The bespoke furniture honours the enduring craftsmanship of Chinese artisans, featuring dark timber and marble patterns that add a luxurious touch. And adding to the enchantment, spirit animals come to life on hand-painted murals, paying homage to the rich tradition of Chinese storytelling.
The independent family-run group behind Tattu, Permanently Unique, was founded in 2015 by Jones and his brother Adam. In addition to their flagship restaurant in Manchester, they have expanded with locations in London, Birmingham, and Edinburgh. And it’s clear to us that community appears to be at the core of their mission, as demonstrated by their commitment to reinvesting in Leeds. The brothers are dedicated to delivering the same high-quality experience in this fresh and unique space, but across the board, they ensure that each restaurant remains a distinct part of its local community.
And then there’s the food!
The menus at Tattu Leeds, crafted by Head of Culinary Matt Downes and Group Operations Chef Thomas Southern, feature exciting new dishes to celebrate the reopening. To kick things off we had the pleasure of sampling the Crispy Kataifi King Prawns paired with mango and sweet chilli, the Sticky Beef Short Rib with crispy shallots, chilli and spring onion, Shiitake Xiao Long Bun with porcini, ginger and garlic. Then for the main event, Black Pepper Beef Fillet with wok-fried peppers and shallots and the incredible Shanghai Black Cod alongside Chinese Green Beans and Shredded Duck Fried Rice. And seriously, the Yuzu Drop dessert – passion fruit, shisho and almond – was nothing short of a creamy, fluffy spectacular!
Then take into account that all of the team’s products are sourced from the Far East, where the craftsmanship and expertise in this style are unmatched. It is this commitment to authenticity and attention to detail that is a true testament to the incredible quality of Tattu Leeds and why we are under no illusions they will be leading the way in Leeds’ thriving restaurant scene for another seven years. At the very least.
This one comes VERY highly recommended.
