Nicholson’s Pubs team up with Stroud Brewery to bring us the exclusive (and divine) GAIA beer

24 Aug 2024

After the disappointment of this summer’s frankly abysmal weather – see the hurricane-force winds at Leeds Fest for case in point this week – this September, Nicholson’s Pub Collection is going to try and bring a bit of overdue sunshine back into our lives.

The traditional pub group, which celebrated 150 years of their iconic British pubs last year, is teaming up with the award-winning Stroud Brewery to introduce a special, limited-edition beer in the nick of time for Organic September and Cask Ale Week.

Divine intervention

For those pub quizzy rascals among us, you’ll know that the beer is named after the Greek goddess of Earth, GAIA. A fresh, 100% organic pale ale that will be available for a limited time across all of Nicholson’s renowned British pubs in Yorkshire. Including four in York city centre itself. (Harker’s, The Punch Bowl, The Cross Keys, and home of one of the best Sunday roasts around, Old White Swan).

Stroud Brewery is well-known for producing exceptional beer while promoting farming practices that nurture a healthy environment and support local communities. Together, Nicholson’s Pub Collection and Stroud Brewery aim to inspire positive change by participating in the Soil Association’s annual Organic September campaign, which highlights the benefits of organic farming and encourages more people to choose organic products.

Takeover Time

This tasty collaboration is part of Organic September’s Tap Takeover, a celebration of pubs, bars, and hospitality venues that prioritise “people and planet-friendly pints.” Throughout the month, the launch of GAIA will spotlight Nicholson’s pubs, with organic beer and seasonal rotations continuing to be available on an ongoing basis.

Commenting on the partnership, Greg Pilley, Managing Director of Stroud Brewery, said: “We are delighted to team up with Nicholson’s Pub Collection on the launch of GAIA. Offering customers an organic beer is a straightforward way to meet consumer demand for purchasing with purpose, and positively support the countryside and the farmers who help maintain a thriving countryside that everyone can enjoy.”

The announcement also coincides with the nationwide Cask Ale Week, taking place from September 19th to 29th, 2024. This annual event provides pubs and breweries with the perfect opportunity to engage customers in exploring and promoting real ale through a range of events, activities, and partnerships throughout the week. The celebration is backed by major trade organisations, brewers, pub groups, and The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

Operations Director, Will Prideaux, says, “Here at Nicholson’s Pubs, we are staunch supporters of cask ale. Partnering with the likes of Stroud Brewery has given us the opportunity to launch a collaborative beer, GAIA, that is 100% organic and 100% delicious! We are excited to be involved with this year’s Organic September too and join likeminded people who are bringing a positive change to the industry.”
