JÖRO Summer Terrace – where miracle behaviour kids meet world class BBQ

31 Jul 2025

We’d been counting the days—ever since FoodNoise featured JÖRO’s spectacular Oughtibridge Mill relaunch in December 2024, so with visions of their full 18‑course tasting menu dancing in our heads, we planned a festive stay-over and leisurely sit‑down. Except it was the summer holidays, and the practical reality conspired against us: two chipped carrots — sorry, children — aged two and eight. A full tasting menu sitting in the peace and quiet on the edge of the Peak District? Yeah right.

Two kids, a chic terrace… what could possibly go wrong?

Cue panic. And then salvation: Luke and Stacey’s new summer terrace menu at JÖRO, running Friday–Sunday from 12–8 pm. Casual al fresco feasting, with touches of their Michelin‑recommended kitchen magic. Perfect. So with equal parts dread and delight, we booked a Sunday lunch slot and mentally braced ourselves.

Sure, we’d previewed the menu: BBQ Yorkshire bavette steak, Barnsley lamb chops with chimichurri, wood‑fired pizza, heritage tomato salad, hot dogs—small plates that echoed the main tasting menu in bite‑size.  But would it survive the toddler test? That was the real question.

Brrr, but bring blankets!

We pulled up just before 2.30 pm, kids’ tummies rumbling from a morning amble in nearby Greno Woods. A typical Yorkshire summer’s day greeted us—chilly sun, a breeze whispering “wrap up”. Cue JÖRO to the rescue: soft blankets appeared, much to the kids’ delight. As soon as the sun peeked out, they toddled over to the old‑school beach deck chairs to chill, leaving us parents time to sneak a drink. And yes—you do get deck chairs on a Michelin‑recommended terrace, and they nailed it.

Steaks, lamb, burgers… and total kid compliance

What did we order? Lucy went for the BBQ Barnsley lamb chop with chimichurri and fermented roquito peppers, while I couldn’t resist the flame‑grilled Yorkshire beef burger with Emmental and “Big Mac” sauce. The kids kept it zen: margherita pizza, simple and effective. Sides included fat juicy Lorenzo Gordal olives, garlic‑and‑seaweed salt fries, and sweet potato fries.

Service was incredibly warm across the board: Luke himself popped over to chat menu evolution, while Stacey at the bar shared how the community morning coffee crowd loves their daily pastry offering. The couple’s passion was tangible.

Dessert shocker

The kids went classic with ice cream—but for Lucy and me? The brown butter & Madagascar vanilla parfait with local blackcurrant and white chocolate stole the show. I’m a savoury person and I’d never say this lightly, but honestly: one of the best desserts we’ve ever had in years of reviewing. If this is indicative of their full tasting menu… we need to book fast and pray it stays on.

What we expected to be a one‑hour lunch turned into a relaxed 2½ hours. Two peaceful kids, full bellies, and no meltdown. Is it summer‑holiday parenting heaven, or what? Taking a two‑year‑old and an eight‑year‑old to a semi‑formal terrace at a Michelin‑recommended venue? Sounds bonkers. Yet it worked. The kids behaved impeccably throughout—blankets, deck chairs, pizza bliss. We survived, thrived even.

JÖRO Summer terrace = savvy innovation

This terrace menu is pure genius: approachable enough for families, yet retaining signature JÖRO flair. Stand‑outs like the lamb chop, burger, scrumptious sides, and an unforgettable dessert prove this is no watered‑down experience.

JÖRO: A proud Sheffield star

Remember, JÖRO is Sheffield’s only entrant in the UK’s Top 100 restaurant list at number 43.  That’s right—family‑friendly, Michelin‑recommended excellence nestled in a 300‑year‑old former paper mill. The vibe hits that perfect sweet spot of industrial chic, community warmth, and cooking passion.

Honestly, the only gripe? We don’t live in Sheffield, so it’ll be a rare treat. We’d jump at staying overnight (they offer rooms at the Mill), booking the full tasting menu next time. But for now, the terrace will stay firmly in our memory—and likely, in our dreams.

Don’t Miss: FÝR BBQ Fest: flame‑cooked fun, tickets now on sale!

JÖRO’s inaugural FÝR BBQ Festival lands on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st August—two days of live‑fire cooking demos by Chef Luke French, bespoke BBQ menus inspired by global travels, and tonnes of flame‑grilled excitement. Tickets (£10) grant access to both days and include one token redeemable against a BBQ dish (extra tokens available on the day).
