First Look at JÖRO, Sheffield: Michelin-Recommended Restaurant Unveils Stunning New Location

14 Sep 2024

FoodNoise favourite Jöro, already boasting three AA Rosettes and a prestigious spot in the Michelin Guide, is raising the bar once more by relocating from its current Shalesmoor site in Kelham Island to a new venue at Oughtibridge Paper Mill, just outside the city, on the edge of the picturesque Peak District.

In addition to the main restaurant, the new location will feature two bars, an outdoor BBQ kitchen on the terrace with live fire cooking for meat and fish, bringing that element of theatre, seven guest apartments, and a shop selling produce used by Jöro’s chefs, along with everyday ingredients.

The current site at the Krynkl shipping container complex will be taken over by Konjö, Jöro’s fab street food concept, which will offer more affordable, Asian-inspired dishes.

Husband and wife team

While the setting may change, chef Luke French and business director Stacey Sherwood-French, the husband-and-wife team behind Jöro, have assured that the new space will stay true to the restaurant’s core identity. It will continue to spotlight local ingredients, such as Barnsley lamb, while incorporating Nordic and Japanese-inspired flavours and techniques.

Luke, who has also made an appearance on Great British Menu, further speaking to the Sheffield Star added: “We’re incredibly excited about this new chapter for JÖRO. We have been searching for quite some time for a new home, which will allow us to really push the whole experience to the next level.

“Having the separate terrace concept and bars allows us the space to alleviate the pressure of turning tables, as well as bringing new concepts to Oughtibridge.”

Stacey commented: “As soon as we saw the site a couple of years ago we were immediately drawn to it, and we just couldn’t let it go. It has the beautiful views of the mill and Peak District, yet is only a 10-minute drive from our current location in the city centre.

“We’re excited to continue our mission of bringing new and exciting experiences to the city, the scope of space at the mill will allow us to really showcase hospitality at its best.”

Highly acclaimed

Since opening on Shalesmoor in December 2016, JÖRO has earned widespread acclaim. It has been featured in the Michelin Guide, holds three AA Rosettes, and has ranked among the UK’s top 100 restaurants for four consecutive years.

The new location is being hailed as Sheffield’s first true foodie destination, offering a renowned restaurant alongside chic accommodations in the city’s scenic countryside. The site will feature five studio rooms and two one-bedroom apartments with Scandinavian-inspired decor, stunning views, and homemade continental breakfasts delivered directly to the rooms.

House of JÖRO, the boutique accommodation at the original Shalesmoor site, will continue to operate for guests who wish to explore Sheffield city centre and Kelham Island.

Food to make you go mmmmm

The terrace menu at the new Oughtibridge location will showcase dishes like grilled Scottish scallops, salt-aged Yorkshire beef rump cap, and whole teriyaki quail, all cooked over birch wood and charcoal. Desserts will include Basque blueberry cheesecake, Yuzu meringue pie, and a selection of soft-serve ice creams, including flavors like pistachio, caviar, and salted butter rum caramel.
