Fenwick’s York Celebrates 40 Years with Cake, Fizz, and Coppergate Kitchen Sweets
06 Dec 2024
It’s not every day a local department store turns 40, but Fenwick’s in York has certainly earned the right to throw a fabulous birthday bash. From its grand opening in 1984 at the Coppergate Centre to becoming a staple of shopping in York, Fenwick’s has seen decades of success—and there’s plenty more on the horizon to get excited about.
A Birthday Bash in the Coppergate Kitchen
To mark four decades of style and service, Fenwick’s York hosted a birthday soirée at its sleek in-store restaurant, the Coppergate Kitchen. Decked out with green and white balloons (Fenwick’s signature colours), guests were treated to an evening of festivities, including a lovely birthday cake. But in true Fenwick’s fashion, its own Coppergate Kitchen managed to outshine it with its excellent array of delicious cakes and sweets.
Dining at Coppergate Kitchen: Where Food and Fashion Meet
The Coppergate Kitchen isn’t just a place to refuel after a shopping spree—it’s a culinary destination in its own right. Serving breakfast, lunch, and Afternoon Tea, the restaurant offers everything from fresh pastries and Eggs Royale to a mouthwatering Sunday roast. If you’re craving a proper lunch, opt for the Coppergate Fish & Chips or crispy Chicken Milanese. Vegetarian or vegan? Don’t worry, the Coppergate Kitchen has you covered with a diverse menu that caters to all tastes.
And let’s talk about those cakes—whether it’s the iconic Victoria sponge, a zesty passion fruit opera cake, or a delectable orange & polenta cake, it’s impossible to leave without indulging in at least one slice. Afternoon Tea is the real showstopper, though—served with Champagne, it’s the perfect treat after a busy day of shopping.
Fenwick’s York: A Timeless Favourite
Rebecca Elcock, store manager and Fenwick’s stalwart for 34 years, kicked off the celebration with a warm speech. She shared how the department store continues to thrive by bringing in fresh, exclusive brands—like Trinny London (now the only Fenwick’s to carry it outside of Manchester and Newcastle) and Forever New. But it’s not just about the products; it’s the legendary customer service that keeps bringing shoppers back time and time again.
“We pride ourselves on always being there for whatever you need,” Rebecca said. And with an amazing team—referred to as the Fenwick family—it’s no wonder the store has enjoyed such long-lasting success.
