About the Festival
The Festival hosts events year-round, celebrating local and regional food and drink, with the main 10-day event held in late September. As a not-for-profit organisation, all proceeds from ticket sales are reinvested into the festival to improve it each year.

Festival History
Launched in 1997 by the local tourism partnership, York Food & Drink Festival initially aimed to bring celebrity chefs to the city and host a food market around their appearances. In 2004, Michael Hjort became the festival’s creative director, and by 2007, it was managed by a not-for-profit organization in collaboration with the City of York Council. Since then, the festival has shifted its focus to showcasing Yorkshire produce and chefs. Its mission now is to educate through cookery lessons, demonstrations, and events that celebrate Yorkshire food and drink.
